“Undersong places you at the meeting point between threads of music. Voices weave amongst you and around the space. Nine singers build a vibrant language of a cappella music and movement as they bring to life a series of brand new compositions, which move between tender and expansive.”

In 2020 Ellie will performing in Undersong, the latest show by long-term collaborator and OFFIE award winner Verity Standen.

Ellie joined dance maker and choreographer Laila Diallo and a team of performers for two weeks of R&D of this beautiful show about boundaries, togetherness, and sharing the same space in November 2019. Listen to ‘Restless Elbows’ one of the pieces Ellie composed for the show.

Birds Die

“Birds Die is an abstract exploration into what life is like for birds and for us in the current ecological and political climate, drawing comparisons between the human voice and birdsong, and asking the question “why is it so hard to listen?”

An audio experience examining birdsong and human voice, exploring ways of listening to our surroundings and each other as birds die and we fail to notice.”

The inaugural audio collaboration between Ellie and writer/maker Tara Robinson. The show is currently in development, stay tuned for more details. Listen to ‘Nearly got got’ - the first demo from Birds Die.

Dick Cave & THe Sad Weeds

Bristol’s own Nick Cave drag tribute act. Dick Cave (Steph) and Warren Smellis (Ellie) are murdering ballads at drag nights across the South West like the no good people they are.

Wasp Woman The Musical

“A brand new schlock horror comedy musical based on 1950s B-movie The Wasp Woman. 

Wasp Woman the Musical will be a kitsch and irreverent dive into the world of shlocky sci-fi,1950s pop music, female monsters and feminism featuring original music and an all female cast.”

Wasp Woman will be developing throughout 2020 and beyond.

I Made A Ship
Recorded live at the Wardrobe Theatre, Bristol

Based on a poem by Ellie’s wife, this intensely personal song has been played on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio Bristol’s ‘The Classical Music Playlist’.

The Tempest
Recorded live at the Redcliffe Caves, Bristol

Originally composed for a production of The Tempest by Insane Root Theatre Company. This performance took place in the atmospheric Redcliffe Caves in Bristol’s historic harbour side as part of a showcase of Ellie’s work with the company. Ellie is the composer and musical director for Insane Root. They are a site specific company, telling you stories you know in places you don’t.

Ellie is a Bristol based singer, composer, performer and musician who specialises in a capella song and writing music for theatre. Since graduating from Dartington College of Arts with a degree in Contemporary Music Performance, they have collaborated on work which has ranged from small scale intimate shows for one to large scale immersive theatre shows for many and has taken them all over the UK and Europe.
